The Cheque Presentation
Evening,
at the Home Cottage,
Redhill
on the 27th October 2009
The Home
Cottage PH in Redhill on the evening of Tuesday 27th, was
the venue for the official cheque presentation by the
Committee of the Redhill and Reigate Carnival, to their
five
nominated charities.
Mayor Richard
Mantle and the Chair of the Carnival Fran Giles, made a joint
presentation of a £5,000 cheque, giving £1,000 to each of the
beneficiaries. The Committee also announced that legacy funding of
£2,500 would be carried forward to help secure the future of the
Carnival, and expressed their hopes that this would start a
pattern of continued investment into its future.
The evening was
chaired by John Gooden, and attended by Carnival Committee
members Sarah Fitzer, Collette Barber and Sharon Scotton, and
representatives of the local business community who had
sponsored the Carnival weekend, as well as interested parties
and participants. Also in attendance were Borough Councillor
Julian Ellacott, who had so generously donated his £1,000
community grant to the Carnival, and County Councillor Peter
Lambell, who surprised the attendees by offering to make a
donation from his grant towards the 2011 Carnival.
Mike Ward from
Age Concern, Merstham, Redhill and Reigate said he was delighted
to accept his cheque for £1,000, and explained in detail exactly
what a difference it would make to his charity. Maisie Scotton
and Will Goulder, delivered a confident speech, which was
testament to the benefits of Orbit Shed’s work as an inclusive
theatre for young people.
Five willing
volunteers signed up to play their part in the next Committee,
and the outgoing Committee were keen to stress that ‘more’ was
definitely ‘merrier’. If you would like to play an active part
in the next Carnival please complete the
registration form.
Thank you
To all our sponsors, participants,
